Clevedon 71 Chew Valley 0

Another fine morning, another large squad present and another resounding home win for the young Seasiders. A depleted Chew Valley arrived at Coleridge Vale for a clash that the home side were looking to use to bounce back after the painful loss to an excellent Clifton side in the Combination Cup the previous Sunday. McKenzie slotted in at full back for the absent Luke Palmer with Liam Vickerstaff and Ethan Thomas also restored to the back line. The front five was a powerful looking unit comprising Jacob, Josh, Lewis, Kieran and Pat and the back row saw Rory return to his favourite position alongside Dane and debutant Lewis Smith.

It was great to see the strength of the bench too in terms of both quality and quantity with no fewer than seven replacements. It neatly illustrated both the momentum that John and James are building and that no players place is safe, hard work at training and in matches now being the minimum required!

The side has some outstanding athletes with in it and two of those (Harrison Lyon and McKenzie Poulter) had run in long range individual tries within the first five minutes, both converted. A third who most definitely falls into that category (Luke McLaughlin) repeated the feat after 10 minutes and then Poulter sprinted half the length of the field for the home side’s fourth try after a clever chip into space from Ethan Thomas. Both tries converted.

Further powerful runs from Dane, Harrison and Luke yielded three further tries and with Ethan converting all three the lads headed into half time 49-0 up.

The second half was a little scrappier and the Chew Valley boys never gave up throughout the encounter and deserved credit for stemming the scoring although further tries did follow from Adam Livingston, Harrison for his hat trick, Sunny Barzotelli and Jamie Sandy for a final score of Clevedon 71 Chew Valley 0.

Great debuts from Lewis Smith and the returning Jamie Sandy, we hope to see both boys again soon! A fine kicking performance for Ethan with 8 successful conversions from 9 attempts and a very special mention to Monty White and McKenzie who spent a half each wearing green to bring the Chew Valley numbers up to 15.

A good way to bounce back after the trip to Cribbs last Sunday and a good way to begin the preparations for the forthcoming Somerset Cup and Combination Vase games in early November. Well played boys.
