Under 14's bounce back after Cup exit

A committed performance from every member of the squad saw Clevedon Under 14's put their cup semi final defeat to North Petherton behind them and continue their proud unbeaten home record. A grey and drizzly morning, in stark contrast to the weather of the previous day, greeted the hosts and their visitors for their third clash this season.

Clevedon started shakily with a kick out on the full into touch within the first minute but soon settled down and tried playing the 15 man rugby that has served them so well on many previous occasions. The pack were facing much bigger opponents but showed an intensity at the breakdown that wasn't matched and soon had the breakthrough score, Harry Lyons skirting through for a converted try.

A trademark burst from McKenzie soon after extended the lead before he was forced to leave the field. Ethan stepped into scrum half and took advantage of the pack's great work to dash over for a try of his own before McKenzie returned and barrelled his way over on the verge of half time for the team's fourth try. A great conversion attempt from the touchline and into a stiff breeze struck the far upright leaving the boys with a 24-0 interval lead.

Two tries early in the second half ended the game as a contest with Dane driving over in the corner from a scrum and Luke McLaughlin going over in exactly the same spot after accelerating away from the cover defence.

Old Morganians battled gamely throughout and it took a strong defensive effort to keep them at bay before Harry Lyon sealed victory with his second try under the posts for a final score of 43-0.

Huge credit to the pack who put in a great shift at the set piece and breakdown whilst disrupting Old Morganians rhythm at every turn.
