A short match report this week for two reasons. Firstly, due to this particular reporter nursing a king sized hangover after over celebrating Wales' triumph the previous day and secondly, due to the game being a scrappy and tight affair with little in the way of flowing rugby.
Failand appeared to be around ten degrees colder than Clevedon upon arrival at the ground with a biting cross wind not improving matters. The boys started brightly despite the conditions though and McKenzie scampered down the touchline for a trademark opening score within the first five minutes.
Old Bristolians soon bounced back though with a couple of missed tackles allowing their impressive centre to race clear and level up the scores at 5-5. What followed was a disjointed game where the boys never managed to get going, a litany of knock ons, misplaced passes and wrong options ensuring that any opportunities that did arise were soon wasted.
With the hosts following the same pattern it looked like a low scoring draw was firmly on the cards before Clevedon finally managed to string a few passes together and put Harry Lyons into space which he exploited with a strong run and a try in the corner.
Old Bristolians battled desperately hard for the remaining three minutes which was played out deep in Clevedon's 22 and often close to the try line itself. But some valiant defending saw the game through and provided a narrow win despite the below par performance.
