Clevedon were slow out of the blocks this Sunday (too much partying over half term?), Broad Plain took full advantage of this and caught our lads on the back foot and scored. Clevedon gained some composure however the defensive line deteriorated into an untidy huddle creating vast amounts of space for the well drilled and positioned home team, Broad Plain soon spread the ball out to the wing and galloped into what seemed like an acre of space to score again, this drill was repeated twice more and Clevedon were unable to challenge due to the chaotic defence strategy!
Following some 'coaching' from the touch line, Clevedon realised what was happening and to their credit rectified the situation during the next game, holding a strong line and creating space for attacking breaks to which the travelling side were rewarded with a number of tries. Broad Plain responded well and were seemingly not going to let go of their lead and once again walked through our defence..
Clevedon remained within touching distance of a draw if not a win however were unable to keep the pressure on and after a number of tackles were missed (or not committed to) Broad Plain stepped up a gear in the last minutes and notched up another 3 tries to secure the victory.
We seemed to forget the basics this week, tackling, holding your line, going forward...all of which needs to be addressed quickly if the lads want to challenge the Hornets next week. The positives this week were our rucking (recycling the ball), drawing the defender and spreading the ball wide.
Player of the week was awarded to Lucus.
