CRFC learn from their mistakes and get back to winning form

Game 1: 0 - 15
Game 2: 10 - 20

As the under 11 players gathered on this sunny Sunday morning there seemed to be a really positive attitude amongst them and all worked well in the warm up drills, excited to get the games under way against what appeared to be a strong , well organised and controlled Hornets squad.

The first game saw the Clevedon team hit the home side hard and battled for everything, our shape held and the defence was solid holding Hornets back and eventually we achieved a turn over ball putting Clevedon in the driving seat who soon put the pressure on, spreading the ball wide with quick, accurate passing which in turn created space to run into and score, Jonny May style! This only boosted our boys' confidence and from here we remained in control, even when under the strong attacks from Hornets the lads were faster, stronger and more determined resulting in more points on the board for travelling team.

The second game was just as impressive, Clevedon had no intention of taking their foot off the pedal and continued to show of their skill and talent carrying the ball forward and recycling with control and vision which resulted in four tries being awarded. Hornets did put up a fight and were not going to hand it to their opponents and kept in the game with two impressive tries although Clevedon forced them back again and again which put a stop to the home team getting close more points. Clevedon would have been able to score at least three more if they had spread the ball into the space on the wing allowing the last man to sprint over the line, a lesson still to be learned is that we need to push the ball wide and not get blinkered (greedy) when it appears the try line is close, it will always be closer if we use our players in space!

A great all round performance this week from the entire squad, player of the week was awarded to Zak Malpas for great defence. Well done!

During the interval the Clevedon coaches had a 'eureka' moment...the under 11's team seem to have a satellite delay of approx. one week therefore any instruction /advice given can not be processed on the same day but will be understood for the next game! This should leave us in good shape for our game against Wellington following next weeks training session.
