Clevedon put training into practice to continue unbeaten run at home!

Game 1: Clevedon 25 - 10 Wellington
Game 2: Clevedon 10 - 20 Wellington
Game 3: Clevedon 5 - 0 Wellington

The under 11's gathered on an already soggy pitch and judging by a few reactions to getting muddy in the pre match warm up drills, it looked as though this was going to a be long morning for the home side.

Wellington kicked the game off and seemed to be more eager to gain possession of the ball and use it whilst Clevedon were disorganised and made some poor decisions which meant Wellington were soon on the score board! The next few phases of play were much the same and Clevedon once again chose to kick the ball from mid field into the Wellington defence who quickly turned on an attack and once again scored. This seemed to wake the boys in blue and gold up and with the rallying cry's from the touchline, Clevedon eventually joined the game.

The home side started to engage in the tackles and breakdowns dominating the play and controlling the phases. Soon Clevedon were across the try line and on the score board. Spirits were now high in the Clevedon camp and the boys kept their foot hard down on the peddle battering the Wellington defence in the rucks and making some convincing tackles (most of the time). This was the first time this season Clevedon seemed to show that they wanted the ball more than the opposition, creating numerous turnovers and spreading the ball through quick hands out wide in to space resulting in more points and eventually the victory.

The second game was another impressive display from both teams and the contest was again fierce but fair seeing both teams notch up points however Wellington moved the ball across the park quickly and pushed forward, Clevedon were less committed in defence and allowed the quick runners of the traveling side to break free and push the difference in score away to take the game. Another really impressive display from both sides.

Both teams agreed to finish the morning with a deciding third match and took to the pitch for the showdown. Even with tired legs, a slippery ball and a chewed up pitch, Clevedon remained composed and organised, allowing the ball to do the work. The final game saw both teams exchange blows and it remained scoreless until Clevedon bullied their way through and secured 5 points in the second half, this was to be the only try of the game and meant Clevedon had finished on top.

A huge well done to the whole squad who all turned up and played some really well executed rugby, hopefully the we will see the same next week away to Avonvale. Player of the Week was awarded to Joseph Fox for his strength in attack, seeing him collect the ball and run through a number of Wellington challenges to score a great try, his defence is also getting better an better each week. Well done!
