Due to the awful weather Clevedon returned to the School pitches for the 1st time in a while, although giving up the home advantage they continued there good run of results and broke a run of 3 losses to Old Bs.
A generous crowd travelled up to valley road and they were treated to a good contest in spite of the conditions with both teams trying to play good rugby, starting against the wind Old Bs made the better start with an early attack, however strong tackling from the midfield partnership of Commrie and Smith gave no ground and strong play from the back row of Martin, Tucker and Gates soon forced a turnover that Thomas turned into territory.
In spite of the conditions the reliable Clevedon Line out was functioning and a score looked inevitable however the visiting Bs defence somewhat dubiously kept them out, however a sharply taken penalty by Thomas caught the visitors napping as he fed Largenton to crash over for his 10th try of the season on 12 minutes.
As the weather deteriorated Clevedons dominance grew however poor final passes and a lack of depth in attack saw chance after chance go begging. With a yellow card a piece for illegalities at the breakdown (Ed Martin for Clevedon) it was a familiar catch and drive routine at a line out that saw them stretch the lead to 12-0 with Trollope crashing over on 38 Minutes .
Clevedons coaching team feared that with the wind and slope in the 2nd half Old Bs would come out strong and that is exactly what happened, however this young seasiders team is evolving into a unit and a combination of dominant set pieces and structured well drilled defence was the story of the 2nd half.
Old Bristolians launched attack after attack but the home team stayed solid, the only blip came after Clevedon were caught out of position and Bs forced a 5 yard line out which they managed to score from, from that point on with Ryder Smith and Cole adding energy to the home pack and Harrison providing the biggest threat out wide only the Blue and Golds looked like scoring.
Wins like this show the character of this young side and they will be hopeful of continuing there run of good form when they welcome Cheltenham North next weekend.
