Clevedon took on an improving Cheltenham North side at Holly Lane with the heavy rain still making Coleridge vale unplayable.
Despite giving up home advantage Clevedon were keen to extend there winning run with Davey and coming back into the side and big Fergus Cole making his first start in 10 months as he continued his return from a serious ankle injury, Egerton also made the starting line up in a late change as Ryder Smith suffered an injury in the warm up.
The visitors won the toss and opted to play against the slope 1st on a slippy pitch however they were made to rue this decision as after 9 minutes of pressure Clevedon took the lead with Will Egerton Crashing over. Clevedons pack were in dominant form with Angel dominating both teams line outs and the scrum only being stopped by some interesting refereeing decisions, however the back line found it difficult to apply the game plan and it was Cheltenham North who scored next after a move broke down in Midfield one of the visiting Fijians raced away to level.
This try should have acted as a wake up call for the home team however much to the frustration of the home coaching team the next twenty minutes of the half was a mess as Clevedons unstructured play was counteracted by an overphysical North defence with the most noticeable action being the referees regular visit to his pocket for 3 yellow cards as the visitors seemed keen to play a man short. A minute before the break an attacking scrum gave the blue and golds a platform and after stretching the visiting defence Trudy Cates crashed over to give Clevedon a 12-5 Half time lead.
The 2nd half was a better contest with the pack creating plenty of quick ball and after a multi phase play when Largerton crashed over on 42 minutes it looked like this may turn into a one sided game however Cheltenham had other ideas and showed plently of spirit in trying to play open rugby on a sticky pitch. Clevedons defence stayed strong and despite an interesting yellow card for Commrie the visitors never looked like crossing the home sides line.
With twenty minutes to go Thomas converted a penalty to put the result out of doubt and the Blue and Golds went in search of the bonus point. Despite dominating the breakdown the home side frustratingly couldn't string together any significant phses of play and it took till the final play pf the game when yet another penalty was earned outside the visitors 22, Clevedon went to touch and hit the reliable Angel, the ball was quickly recycled and the leagues top try scorer rumbled over for his second to secure all 5 points from a frustrating afternoon.
Head coach Nick George commented after on how his side produced some good performances with Manners, Fisher, Cole and Commrie to the fore but they would need to play much better Friday evening if they want to bring home any points from chipping sodbury.
