Seasiders take the spoils from entertaining clash

Clevedon had multiple changes forced upon them as they travelled to a buoyant Chipping Sodbury on the hottest day of the year, after being delayed by the “Tour of Britain” just a mile from the ground when the home team scored from a speculative kick to the corner after 5 minutes things looked ominous for the visitors.

With a change of coach in the off season, a player recruitment drive and a 50 point win the week before lots had changed since Clevedon won here in a monsoon in April.

Our young Clevedon side weren’t ready to lie down though and after solid defence pinned the home side in there half from the resulting line out Clevedon were patient and earned a kickable penalty for Thomas to make it 5-3. From the resulting kick off Giltrow broke through the middle of a ruck in his own half and chased up his own kick to for a line out 15 yards out, from the resulting line after several phases he was on hand to crash over for a try 5-10 . The heat was impacting quality as the next 10 minutes saw play stuck between the 22s until a well worked set play from a line out saw Crew release Thomas and the resulting quick ball saw Harrison crash over in the corner.
On 35 minutes another speculative kick into the left hand corner saw Sodbury close the gap to 5 points but that would be a s close as they got as the seasiders pack turned on the power game earning a set piece penalty , kicking to the then playing the phases patiently until Giltrow rumbled over for his second try, 12 – 24 at the break.
Despite losing Davey to a facial injury and Tucker to cramp Clevedon started the second half with a bang, powerful running from Cam Wingrove, Trollope and Largenton got them on the front foot before Thomas ghosted through a gap to secure the bonus point try, A well worked try saw the home side go in under the posts before Thomas stretched the lead to 15 with a penalty to effectively seals the game as with 15 minutes to go the extreme temperatures were taking affect with players cramping all over the park. With 10 to go the blue and golds lost Ryder-Smith to an arm injury and they had to shuffle the pack again 5 minutes late as Joe Williams succumbed to cramp however a late penalty then a length f the field break from Alfie Harrison for his second try saw the seasiders travel back down the motorway with all 5 points
