Bridge (Over Troubled) Water !

CLEVEDON 1ST XV 34PTS. V BRIDGWATER.1ST XV 18PTS.
This was a first class local derby with both sides opting to play attacking rugby, Clevedon took an early lead through a penalty from the boot of Kieran Hill. The visitors then equalised with a penalty of their own. It was Bridgwater who had the edge in the opening quarter and a quickly tapped penalty saw Clevedon asleep and the visitors crossed in the corner for a 3-8 lead. The first time Clevedon got good ball saw a superb handling movement in the backs and Aaron Rice go over for Clevedon's first try, converted by Hill for Clevedon to take a 10-8 lead. Just before half time a great break by Mike Lowis put captain Owen Biggins in for a try which Hill converted for Clevedon to lead 17 - 8 at the turnaround.
The second half started with Clevedon increasing their lead when a drive by Brian Largenton saw Dean Ashfield go over for Hill to convert. From the restart Clevedon failed to look after the ball and Bridgwater capitalised with a converted try for 24-15. Clevedon were then under pressure and saw two players in the sin bin, the thirteen men defended superbly and Bridgwater only had one penalty to show for their efforts. It was then Bridgwaters turn to lose a man when their scrum half was red carded for giving the referee the benefit of his opinion ,in fluent anglo saxon. Hill kicked the resulting penalty for 27-18. It was Clevedon who had the final say when a catch and drive at the lineout resulted in Owen Biggins scoring his second try.Hill added the points for a 34-18 bonus point win..A good win in a good local derby.
Head Coach Nick Hill commented 'The lads would like to dedicate this win to Dave Richards, former player, ex Chairman and avid supporter who sadly passed away this week. Dave was a true gentleman who will be sorely missed by all who knew him and our thoughts are with his family.'
Next week Clevedon are away to Newent Coach leaves at 11.45 a.m.
