Oh We Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside !

Clevedon's winning run continues with a superb 9 try victory away at Teignmouth. The Seasiders started well with the forwards outworking their heavier hosts and after several passages of play the ever reliable Tom Thie went over in the corner, Kieran Hill converted, 0-7. From the kick off Clevedon ran the ball deep into the Teignmouth half resulting in a penalty which Hill converted, the same player extended the lead further when another penalty was awarded minutes later for 0-13. From the restart Clevedon put together some impressive phases and quick recycling stretched the Teignmouth defence and Mike Lowis was denied a certain try when he was taken out on the line, as a result Clevedon were awarded a penalty try, converted by Hill, 0-20. Clevedon were in complete control and it was one way traffic, a well orchestrated line-out move enabled the backs to pierce the hosts defence and from some superb interplay Rory Biggins scored in the corner, Hill converted 0-27. Clevedon scored again when the outstanding Ben Williams finished a fine passage of play, involving both forwards and backs, 0-32 and a bonus point in the bag. The home team, although outclassed, never gave up and were rewarded with a try from a charged down kick, converted for 7-32. Just before the break Clevedon extended their lead to 7-35 from a Hill penalty.
From the restart any thoughts of a home team fight back were immediately dismissed when Cameron Maslen picked up a clever kick over the top to score his first try of the game, Hill converted for 7-42. Next up the imposing Dean Ashfield weaved his way through the Teignmouth defence to score under the posts, Hill converted to take the score to 7-49. Clevedon came under immense pressure for the next 10 minutes and had to dig deep to defend their line and after a series of penalties Clevedon were reduced to 14 men, after having a player yellow carded. This only served to inspire the Seasiders as they scored again through scrum half Ashley Vailes, who touched down after a 50 metre sprint, Hill converted, 7-55. Clevedon then broke from deep in their own half and a mazey from Ben Williams put Joe Williams over in the corner, 7-60. Still with a man down Clevedon scored again when Cameron Maslen touched down in the corner for his second try of the game, to bring up a final score of 7-66. Ashfield, Biggins, Williams, Thie and Cod-Lot Appleby, were all outstanding
Head Coach Nick Hill commented 'Another very good win on the road, we are playing some of the best rugby seen from a Clevedon side for some time and credit must go to the players, to stand third in the league at Christmas, with only the league leaders on a better points difference, is very pleasing. But make no mistake its a total team effort on and off the pitch that makes this possible. On behalf of the lads we'd like to thank everyone for their support and wish them a merry xmas'.
