Good day at the office....

CLEVEDON 1ST XV 55PTS. V KINGSBRIDGE 1ST XV NIL.
This was another outstanding performance from a Clevedon side full of confidence and playing an exciting brand of 15 man rugby. On this bright but cold afternoon Clevedon started with intent, asserting pressure from the set-piece and building momentum in the loose, resulting in an early Clevedon penalty converted by Kieran Hill. From the kick off Clevedon probed deep into the Kingsbridge half and after several phases of play captain Owen Biggins scored in the corner, converted by Hill for 13-0. It was the fleet footed Hill who scored again when he dummied his way through the defence to score under the posts, which he then converted for 17-0. Clevedon were now in the ascendancy, both in the set piece and around the field, with backs and forwards working tirelessly for each other, however Kingsbridge were in no mood for capitulation and made the Seasiders work for every yard they gained. Just before the break Clevedon scored again, through veteran Tom Thie who finished off a fine passage of offloading to touch down in the corner for 22-0 at half time.
The second half showed Kingsbridge mainly on the defensive but never giving up and Clevedon's midfield defence had to be alert to keep the visitors at bay. The introduction of Gary Carpenter and new boys Ben Purcell and Matt Britton made an immediate impact resulting in Harvey Russell going over the white wash, with Hill added the extras for 29-0. Powerful running from Clevedon forwards Largenton, Honor and Purcell allowed Clevedon to recycle the ball and after some slick handling Harry Butland out sprinted the Kingsbridge defence to go over in the corner for 34-0. Clevedon were now on the rampage and after sustained pressure the outstanding Rory Biggins touched down and with Hill converting the scoreboard read 41-0. The next to score was debutant Brad Ashfield, who finished off another fine handling move by the Clevedon backs, again Hill added the points for 48-0.The final word aptly went to captain and MOM Owen Biggins who led the team magnificently all afternoon as he scored his second try in the corner, Hill duly converted for the final score of the game.
Head Coach Nick Hill commented "I was really pleased with the win but the game wasn't as one sided as the score line suggests and we had to work hard and show a lot of patience. The new boys Purcell, Britton and Ashfield all fitted in seamlessly and add much needed strength in depth to our squad, The day was finished off brilliantly with a good odd rugby sing song, organised by Neil Hutton for Macmillan Cancer "
Next week Clevedon are away to Chard, Coach leaves the club at 11.a.m.
