Wrong Weather Right Result !

This was a resounding victory on the road against a basement outfit. The heavy conditions did not lend themselves to running rugby, but this did not stop the Seasiders from playing some exciting stuff. With the wind behind them and playing down the slope Clevedon started well and took an early lead when Dean Ashfield scored a try out wide. Clevedon went further ahead with a long range penalty from Kieran Hill. From the KO the Seasiders were at it again, strong running from Foley and Purcell resulted in Owen Biggins scoring his first try of the game for 0-13. In the swirling wind and heavy showers Clevedon were relentless with backs and forwards working hard for each other and they were soon rewarded with a second try for Dean Ashfield, converted by Hill for 0-20. Clevedon had the edge in the scrums against a heavier pack and the line out functioned well all game. A fine break from live wire Matt Britton saw the ball recycled and William Trollope went over to increase the lead to 0-25. Shortly after ,veteran Mike Lowis crossed after a fine passage of play, converted by Kieran Hill for 0-32. Just before the break the evergreen Tom Thie was next on the score sheet when after a fine passage of offloading saw him touch down and Clevedon went in to the break 0-37 up and the bonus point safely in the bag.

The second half saw much of the same with Clevedon now having to cope with the elements and a dogged performance from the home side. Clevedon's 8 worked tirelessly with Largenton, Bosley, Davis, Statton and Rawle dogged in the tight and it was Clevedon who scored again when young Harry Butland crossed for a try after a breath taking run, Hill converted for 0-44. Harley Foley scored next topping a fine afternoons performance and Hill again added the extra's for 0-51. Midsomer Norton went through a phase of pressure which had Clevedon on the back foot but defence turned into attack which saw a length of the pitch handling move end with Tom Thie bagging his second try for 0-56. Midsomer Norton for their efforts were rewarded with a try but in the end it was Owen Biggins who had the final say with his second try, a spectacular swallow dive under the posts, Hill converted.

Head Coach Nick Hill commented "Given the conditions I was really pleased with the performance and how hard the lads worked for each other and it was ideal preparation for the tougher games to come".

Next Saturday Clevedon are home to 3rd placed Matson, kick off.2.30pm, VP's lunch 1.30pm.
