Tough ....

BRIDGWATER 1ST XV 41PTS. V CLEVEDON 1ST XV 22PTS.
Another loss on the road despite scoring 4 tries but it is the achilles heel of first up tackling, or lack of, that is taking its toll. Clevedon had a player yellow carded in the first minute which did not help their cause but despite this Clevedon had the lions share of possession and the better of the early exchanges, but could not turn pressure into points. Against the run of play Bridgwater took the lead with a converted try, this was improved when they won the race for the touch down after a kick ahead. Clevedon's forwards who had the upper hand all afternoon in the tight and set piece, scored from a 5 metre scrum when Joe Williams went over for a try, unconverted for 12-5.This quickly followed by a second try from another 5 metre scrum with Andy Davis going over in the corner, unconverted for 12-10 at half time.
The second half saw Clevedon playing down the slope and into the wind and poor tackling soon led to the hosts scoring three tries two being converted to take the scoreline to 29-10. Clevedon came back once again through their forwards with Harvey Russell going over in the corner from close range, unconverted 31-15. Bridgwater then kicked a penalty for 34-15. Clevedon replied again with another close range try after forward pressure saw Joe Williams go in for his second try, converted by Tom Thie for 34-22. In the final minute Bridgwater score a try from a quick lineout throw which was converted, for a final score of 41-22.
Head Coach Nick Hill commented "After having the lions share of possession and dominating them up front all afternoon, to leak 41 points is disappointing to say the least, we have worked really hard on our defence in training this week but its on a Saturday afternoon that you have to put it into practice and the desire wasn't there to do that today."
Next Saturday Clevedon are home to Thornbury.k.o.3.p.m. v.p's lunch 2 p m
