Clevedon were left scratching their heads after another frustrating loss at the vale. The seasiders dominated up front and enjoyed the lions share of possession but still managed to finish up losing. On an overcast afternoon the Devonian visitors started well scoring a converted try after some good forward play. From the kick off Clevedon surged deep into the Cully half, playing phase after phase but ended up losing the ball in contact, this ended up being the story of the afternoon. The seasiders did manage to get on the score sheet with a penalty from Adam Coles but Cully replied with a penalty of their own for 10-3. Clevedon now upped the ante putting the Cully pack under pressure at scrum time and dominating possession for periods of time but could not put the final pass together and their cause was not helped with the loss of Cameron Maslen with a head injury. Cully increased their lead further when a Clevedon handling mistake allowed the visitors to ghost in unopposed beneath the posts for a converted try. Once again the Seasiders built momentum recycling ball, only to spill it or kick it away and Cullys third visit to Clevedon's half was rewarded with anther converted try, when a loss of concentration and an inability to tackle, allowed them to score a converted try for 24-3 at halftime.
After the break the game followed in similar fashion with Clevedon pushing hard and gaining ground but once again a rare visit to the seasiders half resulted in another converted try for Cullompton. To compound matters Clevedon then lost centre Ben Williams to a head injury. Now with two forwards playing in the backs Clevedon camped in Cullomptons half and only determined defence kept them at bay. However the Seasiders did manage a try when debutant Mason Parslow sprinted 50 metres to score a try converted by Adam Coles for a final score of 10-31.
Head coach Nick Hill commented "I can't knock the effort the lads showed this afternoon what we gave in commitment we lacked in execution, on another day we could easily have won.
No game next week.
