Once again a much changed Clevedon side welcomed an Old B's side to the Vale and it was to prove a frustrating afternoon as the hosts aided to their own downfall with a performance littered with mistakes and unforced errors. Old B's were first on the score sheet with a penalty, moments later Clevedon replied with one of their own 3-3 . The seasiders went into the lead when a fine passage of play saw Des Burnes score in the corner for 8-3. From the restart Clevedon attacked but the ball was intercepted for an easy try 8-10. Old B's moved further into the lead when a kick was dropped allowing them to score another soft try, 15-8. Clevedon hit back with a fine try from Kane Gibson 15-15. As seemed to be the story of the afternoon every good thing Clevedon did was followed by a mistake as once again careless handling allowed Old B's to score another converted try,15-22. Back came Clevedon when Tom Thie cleverly chipped over and then collected the ball and offloaded to Charles Tucker to score a converted try, 22-22. A penalty well struck by Ethan Thomas saw Clevedon lead at the break 25-22 .
The second half did not start well as a poor kick chase allowed Old B's to score another try , moments later another poor kick chase was again punished with a further try, 25-34. Later in the half the visitors increased their lead with a penalty for 25-37. With 10 minutes remaining Clevedon scored from a lineout drive by Skipper Brian Largenton for a final score 30-37.
Head coach Nick Hill commented the fact that we picked up 2 bonus points is a positive but the lads are disappointed that they contributed to their own downfall today.
