Victory @ 'The Vale'

Clevedon recorded their first win of the season with a determined performance at the vale. Visitors Barton Hill sat in third place prior to the kick off and must have felt confident of another win, but they hadn't counted on a fired up Clevedon side. The seasiders started well recycling the ball and forcing their way into the Barts half unfortunately the ball was spilled on more than one occasion by sloppy passing. As the half developed Barts moved the ball and applied pressure but they were met with a stoic defence led by Ford , Tucker and Smith. On the 30th minute a strong run from Edwin Smith saw the ball recycled and Johnny Hicks scored outwide to give Clevedon a 5 nil lead. Moments later Barts hit back with an unconverted try of their own, 5-5. Just before the half time whistle Clevedon scored again when a forward surge was finished off by skipper Brian Largenton who scored under the posts Alistair Balcombe managed to convert half time score 12-5.

The second half remained scoreless with both sides testing the others defence but it was Clevedon who stuck it out for a much deserved victory. Head coach Nick Hill commented 'Really pleased for the lads who showed tremendous spirit and credit must go to new assistant coach Nick Carpenter who has worked hard on our defence with the lads and today it paid off'.
