Great Home Victory !

Clevedon 1st Xv 41 Vs 12 Avonmouth 1st Xv
Clevedon entered the biggest 7 days of there season knowing that everything was on the line and it started with the M5 Derby, a massive home test against local rivals Avonmouth who sat one place and 5 points below them in the league. With Injuries decimating the home squad Clevedon welcomed Crew back from injury whilst Vailes, Wilson and Biggins also came into the squad.
Avonmouth came out all gun blazing and took a deserved lead when visiting hooker Britton cut a line from close range and went under the posts untouched, spurred on by there early success the visitors launched multiple attacks on the home line but the Blue and gold defence held firm and rode out the storm however this was not without cost as Clevedon lost Ryder Smith with a thumb injury to be replaced by the Evergreen Biggins. After repelling a visiting 5 yard scrum a quick tap from the ever alert Thie put Clevedon on the front foot and powerful runs from Biggins, Trollope and Largerton set up the returning Jake Perry for a try to level the scores. Clevedon were now playing with confidence and trusting there shape and this paid dividends as Thie crossed before half time to give Clevedon a 14-7 half time lead into the strong wind.
Clevedon Started the second half in the same vein and were awarded a penalty try after aggressive defence forced a mistake in the visitors 22, Ash Vailes fly hacked through and looked certain to score before a cheap shot in the back halted his progress, the offending player saw yellow and 7 points to the home side. Clevedon lost the impressive Mason Parslow to a leg injury with the adaptable Cal Fear usually a back 5 forward taking over on the wing, and it wasn’t long until he was in the action as the energetic Rudy “Mad Dog” Gates marked a return to form by forcing an error on halfway then carrying the ball into the 22 before offloading to fear for the bonus point try. Fear crossed for his second shortly after before Hicks then Wilson (on for Crew) were both yellow carded for indiscretions at the tackle area. Avonmouth took advantage of there two man advantage to score a try and give the visiting crowd hope of a comeback however the experienced Summerell soon put pay to this by barging his way over before the scoring was rounded off by young Danny Harris enjoying his new role in the centre.
All in all a great performance from Clevedon who are finally managing to be patient and trust in there game plan, Matthew Fisher and Rudy Gates were outstanding all day and there was a great cameo from Owen Biggins to help change the momentum early on.
