IVYBRIDGE 1ST XV 40PTS. V CLEVEDON 1ST XV 10PTS.
This was a wake up call for Clevedon. It is going to be a long hard season. It did not help that there were late cry offs and the team had to be rearranged. The opening exchanges were even but the home backs always looked dangerous.Clevedon could have taken the lead but the attempt at goal failed.Ivybridge took the lead with a penalty and soon increased their lead when a missed tackle enabled them to score a try under the posts. This was converted.Ivybridge led 16 nil at the break,Clevedon not helping their cause by giving away silly penalties. They were also being outplayed in the middle five of the game.
The second half carried on as the same with Ivybridge dominating the break down and the lineout.Ivybridge increased their lead with yet another penalty, quickly followed by a try the length of the field due to missed tackles. This was converted. Clevedon then went down to 13 men with two yellow cards.During this period Ivybridge converted two more tries.
The last 10 minutes belonged to Clevedon .They got good ball and attacked with ball in hand which was supported and a long pass by Tom Thie put Bradley Kinglesbury over in the corner. This move was repeated enabling Mike Taylor to score in the corner.Good rugby but too late.
