CLEVEDON 1ST XV.11PTS V ST.AUSTELL.1ST XV 5PTS.
This was a bruising battle. Both sides never gave an inch. Both defences were superb. The early play was even with both sides willing to run the ball.Against the run of play St.Austell took the lead with a fine try down the touchline with good support play.A fine break by no.8 james Davis saw him spill possession in front of the posts.posts. Clevedon got on the scoreboard with a penalty by Mike Taylor. As the half drew to a close St.Austell must have wondered why they were not further in the lead having dominated possession and had territorial advantage. The answer was Clevedon's defence which was excellent.
The second half started with Clevedon taking the lead with a Mike Taylor penalty. Both sides continued to attack but both defences held firm. Clevedon's line out with the accurate pitching of Jack Williams and the salmon leaping of harley Foley kept Clevedon in the game.A fine break by the terrier like Joe Tucker and great handling by the backs put winger Richard Haines over in the corner for a great try.The game was still not over for Clevedon who had to defend in the last 10 minutes to hold on for the win.
