CLEVEDON 1ST XV 15PTS. V BRIDGWATER 1ST XV 28 PTS.
This was another game that got away from Clevedon although it was a much improved performance to last week. This was a typical local derby with both sides refusing to lie down.Clevedon took an early lead when Mike Taylor made a midfield break to put Oscar james over in the corner.Mike Taylor converted with a superb kick.Bridgwater came back and applied pressure on the Clevedon line and the defence was breached for the visitors to equalise with a converted try. Bridgwater soon took the lead with a second converted try.Despite early dominance in the scrums Clevedon were starting to come under pressure in the set piece. Before the break Mike Taylor kicked a penalty to make the score 14 -10 to bridgwater.
The second half started badly for Clevedon when they failed to gather the ball at the kick off. From the following scrum Bridgwater darted over for their third try which again was converted. When getting into try scoring positionbs Clevedon too often conceded penalties.A positional change in the backs seemed to work for Clevedon and theintrduction of the returning Will Cooper inspired the forwards.Suddenly a wave of attacks brought reward with and excellent try for Tom Thie.Clevedon were now in touch for at least a losing bonus point.A kickable penalty for Clevedon just went wide.Bridgwater had the final say with their fourth converted try.Unfortunately this score denied Clevedon any points. The introduction of new scrumhalf Josh Mortimer was a revelation and with players hopefully coming back from injury Clevedon can turn their season around.
