Harvey Russell and Alex Giltrow crossed for the visitors and Mike Taylor added a penalty and two conversions, but Clevedon were again unable to turn possession and territory into points.
Russell touched down in the opening ten minutes following a powerful 30 metre driving maul, but defensive lapses ensured they would have a mountain to climb after the break.
Giltrow put the finishing touches to nine-phase move to give Clevedon a glimpse, but Matson took advantage of a loose ball to put the game to bed and seal Clevedon’s fate.
Clevedon host Bristol Harlequins in the Combination plate on Saturday, December 27 – 2pm KO.
