Last match of the season for Clevedon Colts with a visit to local rivals Nailsea and Backwell.
Clevedon started strongly and for a long period were camped in the Nailsea 22' but despite winning a number of penalties close to the Nailsea line were unable to convert this pressure into points. Clevedon's forwards were on top but it was Nailsea's free flowing backs that caused the damage against Clevedon's too often narrow defence. Nailsea ran in three tries in the first half to lead 17 points to nil at half time.
Clevedon continued to compete and despite going down to an early second half try by Nailsea, responded with a try of their own. Hooker Jack Crew picked up a loose ball and passed to Ben Thole who chipped over the Nailsea defence allowing centre Mason Parslow to pick up the ball and run in for a try under the posts which was converted by Ben Thole.
Unfortunately Nailsea responded immediately with a try of their own to maintain their lead. Clevedon kept going and scrum half Rhys Talbot picked up a loose ball to go over for a try around the 20 minute mark. This was followed by a try by Jack Crew to bring the score back to 27 points to 17 before Nailsea ran in two further tries to finish the match 39 points to 17 winners.
A disappointing end to a disappointing season but credit to all the players, they never gave up in any match and were always competitive.
This is the last year in junior rugby for the older Colts so we all wish them luck as they move on!
