Played up a Stoke Lodge in beautiful surroundings on a crisp Sunny morning made this a fabulous start to what turned out to be a tremendous result and an incredible days rugby for the Clevedon youngsters.
Kicking off the first game against St Brendans, put them up against the team who turned out to be the winners of the day and gave them a real challenge. However they kept their cool and really put in some great performances. 2 tries were let in by the Clevedon boys, however there defence stayed strong to resist the onslaught. Several chances were missed by Clevedon but were up against a very tight defensive line. Final score 2 - 0.
Game 2: Old Bristolians, Clevedon learnt their lesson after the first game and came back stronger. The rucking improved, team support and moving the ball around the field played to their advantage giving them a very healthy win of 7 - 0.
Game 3: Keynsham, these boys looked quite unstoppable, however they had not come across a very determined Team form Clevedon before. From the first whistle Clevedon put huge pressure on Keynsham, not just in attack but in defence as well. Again securing the ball in the ruck paid dividends. Clevedon won 4 -1.
Because of the above results it put Clevedon overall runner up form the 3 pool games meaning e went through to the semis final play offs.
Game 4: Thornbury, these boys are always a strong team and they didn't hold back. Thornbury took the lead in the first half but it stayed at the one score until well into the second half when they went over again for a second. Clevedon did not stop and managed to go over the line for themselves. Leaving only a matter of seconds on the clock the boys just couldn't get back over the line again. Final score 2 - 1 to Thornbury.
I along with the others thought it was the best game I had seen them play for a long time. A very good and respectable result for the boys, they should be very proud of what they achieved, I certainly am.
Thanks to the organisers of PPT another cracking day!
